  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 12 to 16 servings

Ingredients

– 1 cup (240 ml) water

– 1 cup (227 g) butter

– 3 tablespoons (22.5 g) cocoa powder

– 2 cups (240 g) flour

– 2 cups (400 g) sugar

– 1 teaspoon (5 g) baking soda

– 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 g) salt

– 1/2 cup (120 g) sour cream

– 2 large eggs

– 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract

– 6 tablespoons (90 ml) milk

– 3 tablespoons (22.5 g) cocoa powder

– 1/2 cup (115 g) butter

– 3 3/4 cups (450 g) powdered sugar

Instructions

1-First: preheat your oven to 350°F and grease a large 18×13 inch jelly roll pan to prevent sticking. In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: 2 cups flour, 2 cups sugar, 1 teaspoon baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. This step ensures even mixing and helps the cake rise properly.

2-Next: in a separate bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup sour cream, 2 large eggs, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth. Add this to the dry mixture and stir well to combine. Now, boil the water, butter, and cocoa powder in a saucepan, then pour this hot mixture into the batter for that rich chocolate infusion.

3-Once everything is mixed into a smooth batter, pour it into the prepared pan and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. If you’re using a smaller 9×13 inch pan, extend the baking time to 30-35 minutes. While the cake bakes, prepare the frosting by boiling milk, cocoa powder, and butter, then stirring in powdered sugar until lump-free.

4-After baking, pour the warm frosting over the hot cake and let it set for about 10 minutes. This easy dessert is ready to serve, making it perfect for busy parents or working professionals.
