2 whole chickens, cut in half with back strap removed
2 tablespoons olive oil
4 tablespoons sea salt
2 tablespoons black pepper
Garlic granules
Onion granules
Paprika
Cumin
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon sugar
1 cup apple juice
1 cup apple cider vinegar
1 cup water
1 cup BBQ sauce
1 stick melted unsalted butter

Instructions

1. Preheat the smoker to 250 degrees F.
2. Mix the rub ingredients together quietly, and also prepare the spritzer mix by combining apple juice, apple cider vinegar, and water.
3. In a small saucepan, combine BBQ sauce, melted butter, and a portion of the spritzer mix; keep warm.
4. Coat chickens with olive oil and apply the rub mix on both sides.
5. Smoke the chicken with the skin side up over a pan filled with water for 1 hour, ensuring regular spritzing.
6. Brush the chicken with prepared sauce, continuing to smoke until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F.
7. Allow the chicken to rest for 20-30 minutes before serving with additional sauce.
