  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

– 4 skinless cod fillets (6 oz each, about 1-inch thick)

– 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

– 1/2 teaspoon paprika

– 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

– 1/4 teaspoon thyme

– 1/4 teaspoon oregano

– 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

– 3/4 teaspoon salt (or to taste)

– 3/4 teaspoon black pepper

– 1 tablespoon butter

– 1 tablespoon olive oil

– 4 tablespoons butter (remaining)

– 1 tablespoon minced fresh garlic

– 1 1/2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

– 1 1/2 tablespoons chicken broth

– 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

1-Let’s dive into making this lemon garlic butter cod step by step. Start by mixing the dry ingredients: 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon paprika, 1/2 teaspoon onion powder, 1/4 teaspoon thyme, 1/4 teaspoon oregano, 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper, 3/4 teaspoon salt, and 3/4 teaspoon black pepper. Coat both sides of the 4 skinless cod fillets (6 oz each, about 1-inch thick) with this seasoning mix.

2-Heat 1 tablespoon butter and 1 tablespoon olive oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the cod fillets and pan-sear for 3 to 4 minutes per side until golden and cooked through. Once done, transfer the cod to plates and reduce the heat to medium-low.

3-Melt the remaining 4 tablespoons of butter in the skillet, then add 1 tablespoon minced fresh garlic and sauté for 15 seconds until fragrant. Remove from heat and stir in 1 1/2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice and 1 1/2 tablespoons chicken broth, letting some steam escape. Pour this sauce over the cod and garnish with 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley before serving warm.

🧻 Pat fillets dry before coating to help the flour mixture stick better.
⏱️ Avoid overcooking to keep the cod tender and prevent it from becoming tough.
