1 box white cake mix (plus ingredients listed on the package)
Red and blue food coloring
1 cup vanilla frosting
1 package (12 oz) red candy melts
1 package (12 oz) blue candy melts
3 tablespoons vegetable shortening
Sprinkles for decoration
12 cake pop sticks
Instructions
1. Prepare the white cake mix according to package instructions and let it cool completely.
2. Crumble the cooled cake into a large bowl and mix in 1 cup of vanilla frosting until smooth.
3. Divide the cake mixture equally and use red and blue food coloring to color each portion.
4. Shape the mixture into 1-inch balls and place on a baking sheet. Insert a cake pop stick into each ball.
5. Refrigerate for 1 hour or until firm.
6. In separate bowls, melt the red and blue candy melts with 1.5 tablespoons of vegetable shortening using a double boiler or microwave.
7. Dip each cake pop into the melted candy and allow the excess to drip off. Decorate with sprinkles while the candy coating is still wet.
8. Stand the cake pops upright in a foam block or a similar surface until the candy has set.
