– 12 uncooked lasagna noodles
– 2 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese for topping
– ¼ cup shredded Parmesan cheese for topping
– ½ pound lean ground beef
– ½ pound Italian sausage
– 1 yellow onion, diced

– 36 ounces pasta sauce
– 2 tablespoons tomato paste
– 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
– ½ teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
– 2 cups ricotta cheese or cottage cheese
– ¼ cup chopped fresh parsley
– 1 large egg, beaten
– 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese for cheese mixture
– ¼ cup shredded Parmesan cheese for cheese mixture
– ¼ teaspoon salt for cheese mixture
Instructions
1-Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F.
2-Boil the lasagna noodles: Boil the noodles in salted water until al dente, following package directions. Drain, then rinse under cold water and set aside.
3-Brown the meat: In a large skillet or Dutch oven, brown lean ground beef, Italian sausage, diced onion, and minced garlic over medium-high heat until no pink remains.
4-Drain excess fat: If there’s extra grease, drain it so your sauce stays rich but not oily.
5-Simmer the sauce: Add pasta sauce, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, and salt. Simmer uncovered for about 5 minutes until it thickens slightly. Adjust salt to taste.
6-Mix the cheese layer: In a separate bowl, combine 1 ½ cups mozzarella, ¼ cup Parmesan, ricotta or cottage cheese, chopped parsley, beaten egg, and ¼ teaspoon salt (for cheese mixture).
7-Start with meat sauce: Spread 1 cup meat sauce in the pan, then add 3 noodles on top.
8-Add cheese layer: Layer with 1 cup cheese mixture, then top with 1 cup meat sauce.
9-Repeat layers: Repeat the cheese and sauce layering two more times so you build three full layers (cheese then sauce, twice more).
10-Finish noodle layer: Finish with 3 noodles topped with the remaining meat sauce.
11-Cover and bake: Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
12-Add topping and bake again: Remove foil, sprinkle 2 ½ cups mozzarella and ¼ cup Parmesan over the top.
13-Bake uncovered: Bake uncovered for 15 more minutes until browned and bubbly.
14-Broil for extra color: If desired, broil for 2 to 3 minutes. Watch closely to avoid burning.
15-Rest before slicing: Let the lasagna rest at least 15 minutes before cutting so it sets and holds shape.
