🍞 Enjoy a soft and fluffy twist on classic French toast made with sweet Hawaiian rolls for a unique breakfast treat.
🍓 The perfect balance of sweet cinnamon flavor and savory options like bacon makes this dish a crowd-pleaser.

  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

1 (12 pack) sweet Hawaiian rolls

3 large eggs

¾ cup half and half (or whole milk)

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

2 tablespoons brown sugar

A small pinch of salt

4 tablespoons butter (salted or unsalted)

Powdered sugar

fresh fruit

syrup

Instructions

1-First, start by whisking 3 large eggs and ¾ cup half and half in a large bowl until fully combined with no visible egg whites. This creates a creamy base that makes the rolls extra fluffy.

2-Next, whisk in 1 tablespoon vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, and a small pinch of salt to add that sweet, spiced touch (it’s what sets this apart from regular French toast!).

3-Then, poke several holes in the bottom of each of the 1 (12 pack) sweet Hawaiian rolls with a toothpick to help them absorb the mixture better. Soak several rolls in the egg mixture for about 30 seconds per side, making sure not to oversaturate them this keeps the centers soft without getting mushy. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat and add about 2 tablespoons butter to melt; you’ll need more for later batches to keep things browning evenly.

4-Once the skillet is ready, cook the soaked rolls in the butter, turning them frequently to brown all sides top, bottom, and edges for about 30 seconds per side until they’re golden brown. Serve them immediately, dusted with powdered sugar and paired with fresh berries and maple syrup for a delightful finish. Don’t forget, bacon makes a fantastic side to balance the sweetness!
