Ingredients
– 6 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
– 1 pound ground beef
– 1 diced onion
– 2 cloves minced garlic
– 1 teaspoon fresh minced thyme
– 2 tablespoons butter or oil
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1 teaspoon bouillon powder (or salt substitute)
– 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
– 1 teaspoon paprika
– 1 teaspoon oregano
– 2 tablespoons flour
– 1 cup beef broth
– 1/2 cup milk
– 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
– Chopped fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
1-First, in a skillet, sauté 1 diced onion, 2 cloves minced garlic, and 1 teaspoon fresh minced thyme in 2 tablespoons butter or oil until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
2-Next, add 1 pound of ground beef and cook until browned, then season with 1 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon bouillon powder, 1 teaspoon ground black pepper, 1 teaspoon paprika, and 1 teaspoon oregano.
3-After draining excess fat, sprinkle 2 tablespoons flour over the beef mixture, stir, and cook for another minute to thicken.
4-Gradually stir in 1 cup beef broth and 1/2 cup milk to create a thickened gravy, making sure it’s smooth and well combined.
5-In a greased 9”x13” baking dish, layer half of the 6 medium thinly sliced potatoes, then half of the beef mixture, and repeat the layers.
6-Cover the dish with foil and bake at 375°F for 45 minutes until the potatoes are tender.
7-Remove the foil, sprinkle 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese on top, and bake uncovered for 10-15 minutes until the cheese melts and bubbles.
8-Let it rest for a few minutes, then garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
