  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

1 pound 93% lean ground beef
2 ounces crumbled feta cheese
1 teaspoon dried oregano
2 teaspoons diced red onion
2 cloves garlic, grated or minced
½ teaspoon black pepper
Salt to taste
½ medium red onion, finely diced
1 teaspoon freshly grated lemon peel
Juice of 1 lemon
1 egg (optional)
1 cup panko breadcrumbs soaked in ½ cup water (optional)
6 ounces fat-free plain Greek yogurt
1 cucumber, grated
2 tablespoons fresh dill
4 hamburger buns
Sliced red onion
Lettuce
Thinly sliced tomato
Cucumbers for serving

Instructions

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, crumbled feta, oregano, diced red onion, half of the grated garlic, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly by hand and form into patties with a shallow indentation in the center to prevent shrinking.
(Optional) Add finely diced red onion, roasted red bell pepper, lemon peel, lemon juice, egg, and soaked breadcrumbs into the mix for added flavor and moisture.
Prepare the tzatziki by mixing Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, remaining garlic, dill, and salt in a small bowl. Cover and refrigerate until serving.
Preheat the grill to high heat (450°F to 500°F) and cook patties for about 5 minutes per side until the internal temperature reaches 150°F for medium-well.
Toast hamburger buns and spread tzatziki sauce on each half. Assemble the burgers with lettuce, tomato, cucumber slices, and red onion. Serve immediately.

Notes

🧀 Ensure feta is crumbled small enough to incorporate well into the burgers for a creamy texture.
🌿 Use fresh herbs and vegetables to enhance the flavor and vibrancy of the burgers.
🍳 For better binding, especially if using alternate meats, include the egg and soaked breadcrumbs when making patties.
