Ingredients
– 1 loaf of French bread, challah, or thick white bread
– 2 large eggs
– 1 1/2 cups milk
– 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
– 3 tablespoons sugar
– 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
– 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
– 4 to 6 tablespoons butter
– Berries such as strawberries, blueberries, or blackberries (quantities as desired)
– Syrup (amount to taste)
– Jams or jellies (amount to taste)
– Butter (additional amounts as needed for serving)
– Bacon and/or sausage (quantities based on servings)
– Scrambled eggs or hard-boiled eggs (quantities based on servings)
– Chocolate chips (amount to taste)
– Cinnamon and sugar (amount to taste for sprinkling)
– Powdered sugar (amount to taste for garnish)
– Whipped cream (amount to taste)
Instructions
1-First, cut the bread into thick slices and dry it out by leaving it uncovered on a baking sheet overnight or toasting it in the oven at 250°F for 20 minutes, flipping halfway through. In a large bowl, whisk the 2 large eggs, then add the 1 1/2 cups milk, 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, 3 tablespoons sugar, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg until fully combined.
2-Next, dip each bread slice in the custard mixture, soaking for 20-30 seconds on each side. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and melt 2 tablespoons of the butter. Cook the soaked slices for 3 to 5 minutes per side until golden brown, adding more butter as needed for batches.
3-Once cooked, place the French toast on a wire rack in a 250°F oven to keep warm. Choose a large board like a wooden cutting board or marble slab, and prepare utensils such as small bowls, forks, spoons, and spreaders. Wash and slice the fruit, then pat it dry for a fresh touch.
4-Arrange the French toast in the middle of the board and surround it with bacon, fruits, syrups, jams, butter, eggs, chocolate chips, and other toppings. For the best presentation, fill in any spaces with colorful items and garnish with powdered sugar. Serve right away and add more as needed to keep the fun going.
