Ingredients
– 1 block extra firm tofu
– 2 tablespoons cornstarch
– 1 tablespoon soy sauce
– 1 tablespoon olive oil
– A pinch of salt
– 1/4 cup sauce (store-bought or homemade)
– 1 tablespoon chili crisp
– 1 tablespoon honey (optional)
– 1 1/2 cups uncooked rice or cauliflower garlic rice (for serving)
– 1/4 cup green onions (for topping)
Instructions
1-Preheat your oven: Preheat your oven to 425 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup a breeze.
2-Cut the tofu: Cut the tofu in half to get two even pieces, then press out the moisture using towels for 5-10 minutes so it crisps up nicely.
3-Place the tofu cubes: Place the tofu cubes in a bowl, toss them with 2 tablespoons cornstarch for that essential crunchy coating, and then drizzle 1 tablespoon soy sauce and 1 tablespoon olive oil over the cubes before coating gently.
4-Cook rice: Cook 1 1/2 cups uncooked rice according to the package instructions, or whip up cauliflower garlic rice as a fun, low-carb alternative by roasting cauliflower rice with oil and salt until browned, then tossing it with cooked rice, garlic powder, and lemon juice.
5-Transfer the tofu: Transfer the tofu to the baking sheet and roast for 20-25 minutes, remembering to stir once or twice for even browning and that perfect crispiness.
6-Mix sauce: Mix 1/4 cup sauce with 1 tablespoon chili crisp in a small bowl to create your spicy blend add 1 tablespoon honey if you want a touch of sweetness.
7-Toss the baked tofu: Toss the baked tofu with several tablespoons of the sauce, saving some for topping to keep things extra flavorful.
8-Serve the tofu: Serve the tofu with rice, a fresh salad, noodles, or wraps, and don’t forget to add that 1/4 cup green onions on top for a pop of color and crunch.
