🥤 Coca Cola Chicken delivers a delicious balance of sweet and tangy flavors that make for a satisfying main dish.
🍗 This recipe is easy to prepare and perfect for a comforting meal served with rice and vegetables.

  • Total Time: 55 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

– 1 tablespoon olive oil

– 2 pounds bone-in skin-on chicken thighs or drumsticks

– ¼ teaspoon salt

– ¼ teaspoon black pepper

– ½ small yellow onion diced

– 12 ounces cola

– ½ cup ketchup

– 1 clove garlic minced

– 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

– 1 tablespoon brown sugar

– ½ teaspoon dried oregano

– ½ teaspoon dry mustard powder

Instructions

1-Creating Coca Cola Chicken is simple and rewarding, starting with basic steps that build layers of flavor. Begin by preparing all your ingredients, such as dicing the onion and mincing the garlic, to keep things organized and efficient.

2-Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat, then season the 2 pounds of chicken with ¼ teaspoon salt and ¼ teaspoon black pepper. Place the chicken skin side down and brown each side for about 5 minutes before draining any excess fat.

3-Next, mix the diced onion, 12 ounces of cola, ½ cup ketchup, minced garlic, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 tablespoon brown sugar, ½ teaspoon dried oregano, and ½ teaspoon dry mustard powder in a bowl. Pour this mixture over the chicken, bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes.

4-After that, remove the lid and continue simmering for another 25 to 30 minutes, turning the chicken occasionally until it reaches 165°F internally. Serve it with rice and steamed vegetables for a complete meal. For variations, try using different colas or substituting ketchup with BBQ sauce, and for a Chinese twist, swap Worcestershire sauce with soy sauce and dry mustard with ground ginger.

5-If you want a thicker sauce, take the chicken out after cooking and make a slurry with ⅓ cup water and 2 tablespoons cornstarch. For more sauce ideas, visit our page on homemade BBQ sauces that can inspire your next dish.
