🐔 Chicken Cordon Bleu features crispy breaded chicken stuffed with savory ham and melted Swiss cheese.
🧀 This elegant yet easy recipe is perfect for special occasions or comforting family dinners.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

8 thin slices of ham

8 ounces Swiss cheese, sliced or shredded

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 2 pounds)

3 cups crushed cornflakes (alternatives: regular breadcrumbs, Panko, or crushed crackers)

6 tablespoons melted butter

1 cup mayonnaise (for the sauce)

1 to 2 teaspoons yellow mustard, adjusted to taste (for the sauce)

Salt and freshly ground black pepper to season

Instructions

1-Step 1: Prepare the Chicken First, pat the chicken dry and slice each breast in half horizontally to make two thin pieces. Pound each piece gently between plastic wrap until even and thin without tearing. This helps the chicken hold the stuffing well and cook uniformly.

2-Step 2: Stuff and Roll Place a slice of ham and a handful of Swiss cheese on each chicken piece. Roll tightly, tucking sides in, then wrap each bundle tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or up to one day. This step ensures the rolls stay firm during baking.

3-Step 3: Preheat and Coat Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Remove the plastic wrap and season the chicken rolls with salt and pepper. Crush the cornflakes finely and place them in a shallow dish, while melting butter in another dish for dipping.

4-Step 4: Bread and Bake Dip each chicken roll in melted butter, then coat thoroughly with cornflake crumbs, pressing gently so they stick. Arrange the rolls on a greased baking sheet and bake for 20 to 30 minutes, until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C). 5-Step 5: Make the Sauce While the chicken bakes, mix mayonnaise with 1 to 2 teaspoons of yellow mustard, adjusting to your taste, and season with salt and pepper. Serve the sauce alongside or on top of the chicken rolls for a creamy finish. This whole process takes about 45 minutes total, with 15 minutes prep and 30 minutes cook time.
