Ingredients
1 lb ground beef (80/20 recommended for juiciness)
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1 large egg
1/4 cup finely diced onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 cup bourbon BBQ sauce
6 slices bacon, cooked crisp and chopped
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
4 hoagie or sub rolls
Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
1-In a large bowl, gently mix the 1 lb ground beef, 1/2 cup breadcrumbs, 1 large egg, 1/4 cup finely diced onion, 2 cloves minced garlic, 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce, 1 tsp salt, and 1/2 tsp black pepper until combined. Avoid overworking the meat to keep the meatballs tender.
2-Roll the mixture into 1 1/2-inch meatballs and place them on the prepared baking sheet. This step ensures even cooking and that juicy texture we all love.
3-Bake the meatballs for 15-18 minutes until they’re fully cooked through. While they bake, warm the 1 cup bourbon BBQ sauce in a skillet over low heat for that perfect glossy coat.
4-Transfer the cooked meatballs to the skillet and toss them in the sauce to soak up all that flavor. Now, for each of the 4 hoagie rolls, add 4-5 meatballs, top with 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese and the chopped 6 slices of bacon.
5-Arrange the subs on a baking sheet and broil for 2-3 minutes until the cheese melts and bubbles. Finally, garnish with fresh parsley if you like, and serve hot for the best experience.
