🍖 Bola Bola are crispy, juicy Filipino pork meatballs bursting with authentic savory flavors.
🍚 Perfect as an appetizer or main dish, these tender meatballs pair wonderfully with banana ketchup or steamed jasmine rice for a satisfying meal.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: About 20 meatballs

Ingredients

– 1 large egg, lightly beaten

– 1 small onion, finely chopped or grated

– 1/4 cup dry bread crumbs (unseasoned)

– 2 garlic cloves, minced

– 2 teaspoons soy sauce (or substitute with Filipino fish sauce)

– 1/2 teaspoon salt

– 1/4 teaspoon pepper

– 1 pound (about 450 grams) ground pork

– Oil for deep frying (neutral-flavored with a high smoke point, such as canola)

– Banana ketchup for serving (optional)

– Chopped green onions for garnish (optional)

Instructions

1-In a large bowl, combine the egg, onion, bread crumbs, garlic, soy sauce, salt, and pepper. Add the ground pork and mix lightly but thoroughly, careful not to overmix to avoid toughness.

2-Shape the mixture into 1-inch meatballs using lightly dampened hands or a small cookie scoop for even portions.

3-Heat oil in a deep skillet or deep fryer to 375°F (190°C). Fry the meatballs in batches, ensuring they are not overcrowded, until golden brown on all sides, about 2 to 4 minutes. Drain on paper towels.

4-Serve with banana ketchup and garnish with green onions if desired.
