🍐 Enjoy a naturally sweet and elegant dessert with Baked Pears in a luscious brown sugar butter sauce.
🥧 This recipe highlights the perfect balance of tender pears and rich caramel flavors, ideal for a cozy family treat or special occasion.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

4 medium or large firm pears (such as varieties suitable for baking)

1/4 cup light brown sugar

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

1/8 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)

Juice of half a lemon (freshly squeezed)

2 to 4 tablespoons butter, cut into 1/4-inch cubes

1/8 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon vanilla paste or vanilla extract

Instructions

1-Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking dish, like a 10″x7″ or 9″x9″ one, with parchment paper or nonstick spray for easy cleanup.

2-Peel the pears: Peel the pears if they are firm varieties; for softer ones, leave the skin on, then core them while keeping the stems intact.

3-Arrange the pears: Arrange the pears cut side up in the dish, drizzle with the juice of half a lemon, and sprinkle with a mixture of 1/4 cup light brown sugar, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg (if using), and 1/8 teaspoon salt.

4-Add butter and vanilla: Scatter 2 to 4 tablespoons of butter, cut into 1/4-inch cubes, over the pears and drizzle with 1/2 teaspoon vanilla paste or extract.

5-Bake the pears: Bake for 30 minutes cut side up, then flip them cut side down, spoon any caramel from the pan over the top, and bake for an additional 20 to 50 minutes until the pears are soft and the caramel thickens. Total baking time depends on the pear type and desired sauce consistency.

Notes

🍐 Use firm ripe pears to maintain shape and larger sizes as they shrink while baking.
⏲️ Check caramel regularly to prevent burning and adjust baking time for softer pear varieties.
🧈 Vanilla paste adds appealing vanilla seeds, but extract is also a great option.
