Ingredients
1 loaf French bread, cut into 1-inch slices
2/3 cup light brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup salted butter, melted
6 large eggs
1 3/4 cups milk
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
1-First, mix the brown sugar, melted butter, cinnamon, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until it’s all blended. Spread this mix evenly in a greased 15x10x1 inch baking pan and set it aside. Next, in another pan, whisk the eggs and milk together to make the soaking mixture.
2-Then, dip the bread slices in the egg mixture for 1-2 minutes, flipping them once so both sides get coated. Arrange the soaked slices over the brown sugar mix in the baking pan, with the brown sugar side up. Bake it uncovered at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes until the top turns golden brown.
3-Once it’s done, let it cool a bit before serving. Dust it with powdered sugar and add fresh fruit if you like. This method ensures a crispy top and soft center, just like in classic recipes.
4-For added variety, you can incorporate fruits or nuts at this stage. This ties into our tips for making it your own, like adding blueberries for a burst of flavor.
