1/4 cup melted butter for cabbage
1/4 cup melted butter for topping
1 (10 oz) can cream of mushroom soup (or cream of chicken as an alternative)
1/3 cup mayonnaise, mixed with mushroom soup
1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded (reserve some for topping)
30 crushed butter-flavored crackers (or substitute with crushed corn flakes or breadcrumbs)
Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a large baking dish.
2. Place the chopped cabbage in the dish and sprinkle with the onion.
3. Pour 1/4 cup of melted butter over the cabbage and onion, then season with salt and pepper.
4. Cook the cabbage and onion mixture in a pan for 8-10 minutes until it is partially cooked down.
5. In a separate bowl, mix the cream of mushroom soup with the mayonnaise. Spread this mixture over the cooked cabbage.
6. For the topping, combine 1/4 cup of melted butter, the reserved cheddar cheese, and crushed crackers.
